Alaya Consulting announced the winners of the Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards (HERA) 2019. The annual awards recognise excellence in ESG reporting and aim to build trust among stakeholders. This year, HERA acknowledged ESG reports in 6 categories. The award winners were selected from more than 70 nominations, resulting in a donation of HKD40,000 to Greeners Action, a Hong Kong registered charity organisation that has been advocating environmental protection for 26 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tony Wong, founder of Alaya Consulting, the organiser of HERA, said: \u201cWe are thrilled to celebrate the winners of the HERA 2019. They are trailblazing leaders of the industry setting examples of more meaningful and investor-friendly disclosures. It is also encouraging to observe small and mid-cap companies catching up in levels of disclosure, signifying ESG disclosure has been gaining a solid foothold in the Hong Kong bourse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The winners (see below) are decided by an independent panel of experts that includes (in alphabetical order) Angus Ho, Executive Director of Greeners Action, Jessica Tam, Head of HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre, Stephen Wong, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Public Policy Institute, Our Hong Kong Foundation, Ir. Vincent Kong, Sustainability Manager of Sun Hung Kai Properties and Prof. Yarime Masaru, Associate Professor, Division of Public Policy at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The judges panel is of the opinion that reporting organisations should be more focused on disclosing performance on material topics. And they are encouraged to report their long-term ESG strategy and obtain third-party assurance for their reports. The panel also expects to see more companies incorporate SDGs and TCFD recommendations in the upcoming reporting cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n

HERA promotes ESG reporting in Greater China region. The 6 categories are Best ESG Report, Excellence in GRI Reporting, Excellence in ESG Reporting for Non-listed Companies, Excellence in Environmental Disclosure, Excellence in Social Disclosure and Innovative Front-runner.<\/span><\/p>\n
